Sporting de Gijón’s match against Leganés at El Molinón was suspended after a supporter died in the stands minutes into the game.

The referee halted play in the fourth minute as medical teams were called to the upper tier by the corner between the south end and the east stand, and the PA announced a medical emergency. LaLiga’s medical emergency protocol was activated, and the club said in a statement the priority was safety and asked for calm and cooperation when leaving the stands.

After more than 10 minutes, a temporary suspension was confirmed over the loudspeakers under safety instructions, and players returned to the dressing rooms. Attempts to resume the match were not possible.

The emergency call was registered at 16.20, and at 16.50 a coroner was requested after prolonged efforts to save the spectator. The incident unfolded near Gate 11, with two intensive-care ambulances waiting outside to evacuate as quickly as possible.

Medics continued working in the access area as the pitch stood empty, but the supporter could not be saved. The stadium cleared within minutes.
