Italy’s sporting justice authorities have shelved the investigation into Gianluca Rocchi and alleged attempts to influence refereeing decisions, including matters related to Inter.
According to Football Italia, the case erupted in April and initially drew comparisons with Calciopoli, with the refereeing designator placed under formal investigation for sporting fraud.
The inquiry centred on the 2024/25 season, suggesting Rocchi had tried to influence decisions made by VAR officials at the Lissone hub near Milan.
Intercepted calls also discussed which referees should not be assigned to Inter fixtures, as some officials were said not to be liked by the club.
The Milan Public Prosecutor dismissed the case on July 15. The sporting justice system has now followed suit and found no evidence of direct contact between clubs and Rocchi or his assistant Andrea Gervasoni. This appears to close the matter unless new evidence emerges, which seems unlikely at this stage.
