Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn believes that his side are ready to compete in the latter rounds of the domestic cup competitions.

The Lilywhites play host to Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup this evening.

Vilahamn’s project at Spurs has been built piece-by-piece throughout the season. There is more work to be done, however, he believes that his side have enough to compete at the business end of cup competitions.

“I know that we are ready to do that, there are a lot of players in this team that have won trophies,” Vilahamn said when commenting on whether his side are ready to compete in the pre-match press conference. “Drew [Spence], Beth [England] have won a lot of trophies, Matilda [Vinberg] won trophies in Sweden and Amanda [Nildén] won in Italy.

“When you look at the players that we have, a lot of them have played in top teams before. They have the knowledge of how to do that.

“When you play one of the top teams in the league that have seven [league] wins in a row, you know that you need a very good performance to win this game, so you understand that it’ll be tough.

“A cup game is a cup game, if you score an early goal or whatever, you know that you could actually get to the semi-finals. Cups live their own lives, we have to be prepared for this game because you win it or you’re out. I love these games because you give everything then you’re out or you’re through, it’s different to league games.”

Spurs met Manchester City just 10 days’ ago in a Barclays Women’s Super League fixture. On that occasion, the North Londoners went down 2-0. Vilahamn believes that there wasn’t much to separate the two sides in that match and says that his team are prepared for the latest meeting.

He said “We are getting to know them and how they play. They have a certain style, you can see what they do and they do it well. They basically have the same starting XI every time.

“They have seven wins in a row in the league but we know how we can defend and attack against them and create chances.

“The last game was quite even, although they scored two goals. Hopefully, we can be a bit calmer on the ball, try to press them more then we have a better chance to win this game.”
