Stand Or Fall charts Albion journey through the fans’ eyes at Theatre Royal Brighton | OneFootball

Theatre Royal Brighton will stage Stand Or Fall, a new play tracing Brighton and Hove Albion’s journey from the Goldstone years to European football, told through a family of supporters. Former EastEnders actor Paul Moriarty features as Grandad.

According to TheArgus.co.uk, creator Mark Brailsford, a long-time Albion and England fan known for The Treason Show, frames the story from the last day at the Goldstone to Europa League qualification, and stresses it is a play, not the documentary.

The production revisits the fan-led fight for the club’s future, the stints at Gillingham and Withdean, then Wembley, the Premier League and Europe. Scenes capture terrace chat and family life, with carefully kept Withdean ponchos making a nostalgic appearance.

Brailsford takes eight roles including Bill Archer, with another actor portraying David Bellotti. Sarah Mann appears as the mother in the central family.

Its title nods to a line in Sussex By The Sea, the Sussex Regiment’s marching song, which the company reflects on during the show. The piece explores belonging and home, and marks the club’s first 125 years while bringing theatre and football crowds together.
