Chibuike Nwaiwu broke the deadlock in the 47th minute with a close-range header, as Trabzonspor beat Fatih Karagümrük 3-1. The defender then added a second via another corner (50.), defining the contest.
From a corner routine, Nwaiwu attacked Ozan Tufan's headed pass and powered his finish high into the net (47.). The timing of his run separated him from his marker.
Moments later he struck again, glancing in after Paul Onuachu's header kept another delivery alive (50.). The repeat pattern underlined how Trabzonspor targeted him at set pieces.
He finished with two attempts, both on target, and completed 100 of 105 passes. Nine recoveries and two aerials won rounded off a commanding display at both ends.
Set pieces suited him. Trabzonspor stacked traffic at the near post to free his lane, with Tufan and Onuachu supplying the flicks that isolated Nwaiwu in front of goal.
Trabzonspor visit Başakşehir in the Türkiye Kupasi next. Fatih Karagümrük travel to Fethiye in the same competition.
