Pierce Charles preserved Sheffield Wednesday's point in the sixth minute of second half stoppage time, plunging low to deny Ellis Simms as a dominant Coventry City were held 0-0.
The Northern Ireland goalkeeper had already set the tone early on, smothering Ephron Mason-Clark's drive from the left side, reading the angle and holding firm at the second attempt.
After the restart he stayed sharp, getting down to a skidding effort from Mason-Clark and calming The Owls with safe hands under pressure as crosses rained in.
He finished with three saves and three high claims, underpinning a rearguard that made 41 clearances and withstood 69.1% Coventry City possession. His positioning and clean handling repeatedly broke the hosts' momentum.
The display owed plenty to compact spacing in front of him, allowing Charles to step forward and attack the ball, while his late reflex stop from Simms sealed the outcome.
Coventry City visit Blackburn Rovers next. The Owls host Charlton Athletic.
