St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson has built a decent team which invariably achieves a top six finish, clearly punching above their weight in terms of finances available in comparison to the likes of Aberdeen and Hearts who have missed out in recent seasons while Robinson has successfully achieved his primary target.

Having knocked Hearts out of the Premier Sprts Cup in a penalty shootout and also impressing in their 4-1 victory over Motherwell at Hampden last month in the semifinal St Mirren more that merit their place in today’s showpiece event against Celtic.
Twice this season Celtic though Luke McCowan at Paradise and Callum McGregor at Paisley have scored last minute winners to take the points. In both game Saints could feel that they more than merited something from the games. Today Robinson is planning to make it third time lucky for him.
Speaking via BBC Sport Scotland, the St Mirren manager couldn’t hide the excitement in the St Mirren camp as they eye their first silverware since 2013.
“There will be a nervous energy, of course. We aren’t Celtic who get to every cup final or every other cup final,” Robinson said.

“So we have to embrace the day and enjoy the day but most of all what I coin it with is have faith over fear. Really believe in the system, in each other, in the staff, and the stuff we’ve put on in preparation.
“We see all the photographs of the teams that have been very, very successful here and won trophies and they’re held in such high regard.”
The St Mirren boss added: “What I try and do is to tell the players ‘We want your names there, we want your pictures there’.
“They’ve got their pictures up for the European achievements, for the top-six achievements, now we want them up [for winning the cup]. We want them to be remembered, we want them to be recognised everywhere they go for the rest of their life.”

St Mirren defender and former Celt Marcus Fraser spoke for the players as they eye Hampden glory against Celtic this afternoon.
“In 10, 20 years, people will probably still be talking about it [a win]and you can obviously write your own chapter in the club’s history.
“So I think that’s one of the key aspects that we want to do, really grab the opportunity with two hands and if we can get up on that wall, then in a few years’ time, when you walk by it, that would be a great feeling.”
