Steve Bruce has commended Ruben Amorim for his ruthlessness when it comes to facilitating player sales.

It comes after a busy summer window on both the incomings and outgoings front, which saw the Red Devils shell out over £200 million on new signings whilst recuperating around £89 million from departures.

Some of the side’s major names out the door included Antony, who joined Real Betis permanently following a successful half-season loan, Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea and Rasmus Hojlund to Napoli.

The latter is only a loan transfer as things stand, but Napoli have an obligation to sign the Dane permanently upon the culmination of the campaign as long as they qualify for the Champions League.

However, Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed that the Serie A leaders are instead looking to add Hojlund to their ranks permanently in the coming weeks, with United poised to receive £38m from the transaction.

In previous years, the likes of Hojlund, who returned only four Premier League goals in 32 appearances last term, would’ve been kept around beyond his welcome.

INEOS were keen to adopt new methods, though, and decided to part ways with the 22-year-old while he still held a relatively high value. At the time Hojlund travelled to Naples, he had already been replaced by highly-rated frontman Benjamin Sesko.

Joining the outcast forwards was Marcus Rashford. He joined Barcelona on loan back in July after clashing heads with Amorim, and has since enjoyed a new lease of life in Catalonia.

The La Liga giants will have the option of signing Rashford for £28m come May next year, which will be classified as pure profit for United, as the 28-year-old is a homegrown star.

Former Red Bruce weighed in on Amorim’s decision-making when in conversation with talkSPORT this week, saying: “To be fair to him, he [Amorim] has made some big calls.

“A bit like [Mikel] Arteta. I mean, the Rashford situation, the Garnacho situation and Antony. He’s made a big call and got the ones he wants to get in. There are signs of recovery. We all want him to do well.

“I think everybody likes him. I think he’s a really genuine guy. He’s obviously got strong beliefs because the whole football world was craving for him to change, but he stuck with it.”
