Steve Bruce has been talking about Newcastle United and Eddie Howe.
The 64 year old back doing media work after his latest sacking.
Steve Bruce overseeing a disastrous start to the season at Blackpool, with eight defeats and only two wins in their opening twelve matches.
The League One club forced to act, with the team deep in relegation trouble already.
Since Steve Bruce was sacked, performances significantly improving at Blackpool. Unlucky to lose 1-0 at table topping Stockport, a very decent draw against Wycombe, then last weekend a valuable away victory at Peterborough.
Back doing media work though, Steve Bruce keen to talk about Newcastle United and especially Eddie Howe.
Bruce of course who made such disparaging comments in the past about the person who replaced him, calling Eddie Howe “The fella who got Bournemouth relegated…”
Steve Bruce speaking to Talksport about Eddie Howe – 29 October 2025:
“I am going to say this publicly now and I think people have heard it before…
“Amanda Staveley asked me, when I was leaving Newcastle, who I would recommend.
“I recommended Steven Gerrard and Eddie Howe, because I do think he (Howe) is very, very talented, and has got to be the next England manager surely.
“He is a very, very talented lad and he has gone on to prove it at Newcastle, not that he had anything to prove.
“I just think he is very, very thorough in what he does.
“He has a really great approach to it.
“His teams are always up and at you, which I enjoyed watching them at the time. You see, he always has pace in his team in wide areas.
“He is just a very, very talented, talented human being, and he’s likeable.
“You don’t see him mouthing off or anything like that.
“What you see is what you get – A very, very good human being as well.”
Final thoughts
You have to laugh.
Whether Steve Bruce really did recommend Eddie Howe to Amanda Staveley, who knows?
What we do know for sure is that Bruce did make those embarrassing previous comments on his replacement, the lame Bournemouth jibe in particular. The reality of course was that Eddie Howe took Bournemouth from the brink of falling into non-league football, all the way through the divisions to the Premier League and kept the minnows there for five years, only relegated when the fates conspired against the Cherries on the final day of the 2019/20 season.
Eddie Howe then taking time out of the game after that relegation, to travel around and connect with managers at other clubs home and abroad, increasing his skill set and experience, before then making this superb return to football with Newcastle United, now just days short of the fourth anniversary of taking the St James’ Park job.
