Stije Resink, the 22-year-old Groningen midfielder on Benfica’s radar, has suffered a season-ending injury and no longer believes a summer move is likely.
According to Glorioso 1904, he scored early in the second half against Volendam before feeling knee pain and being carried off on a stretcher.
He described the injury as serious and said he will be out for some time, calling it tough and shifting his focus to recovery.
Resink believes many clubs had been monitoring him and accepts the setback changes things, so his priority is to return stronger.
He also accepted the lay-off could affect his future and hopes of a step up to a bigger league. For Groningen this season he has played 25 matches, 24 in the Eredivisie and one in the cup, totalling 2,180 minutes with five goals and five assists. He is valued at seven million euros.
