The Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva has cut Corinthians’ sanctions on appeal. According to Meu Timao, Hugo Souza’s ban is reduced to one match, Matheuzinho’s to two, and the loss of home advantage becomes a one-game closure of the Setor Oeste Inferior at Neo Química Arena.
The club was also cleared of a R$ 10,000 security fine linked to match disruptions, while the penalty for racist abuse towards Palmeiras goalkeeper Carlos Miguel remains at R$ 80,000.
The initial ruling last Friday had ordered a home-game ban and punishments under article 243-G for racist insult and article 213 for disorder and security failings, citing a drone carrying a plush pig and a kite line that halted play.
In its defence, Corinthians argued it cannot control stadium airspace, highlighted long-term anti-racism efforts, and called a home ban disproportionate. It also sought lighter terms for its players, with Hugo initially hit for offending match officials under article 243-F and Matheuzinho given four games for physical aggression on Flaco López under article 254-A.
There was disagreement on the panel, with relator Rodrigo Aiache Cordeiro backing a reduction only for Hugo. The session ultimately kept the financial punishment over the Carlos Miguel case, easing the other measures.
As it stands, Hugo Souza and Matheuzinho are set to miss Sunday’s game against Vasco at Neo Química Arena. The Setor Oeste Inferior will be closed for the Majestoso on 10 May, as ticket sales for the Vasco match are already under way.
