Palmeiras have been fined R$20,000 by the STJD for breaching media protocols around the 12 April derby with Corinthians.
According to Nosso Palestra, the coaching staff declined to give interviews before and after the match after head coach Abel Ferreira received a seven-match suspension from the STJD, while players fulfilled duties with rights holders on arrival and spoke to other outlets post-game.
The CBF filed a notice of infraction to the STJD citing non-compliance with the Competition Manual. On Friday 24 April, the court found Palmeiras in breach under Article 191 of the CBJD and issued two fines of R$10,000, one for pre-match and one for post-match.
After the denial of a suspensive effect on 11 April to the appeal submitted on 9 April, Palmeiras voiced deep dissatisfaction with the handling of Ferreira’s case, describing the punishment as disproportionate. The club criticised the use of lip-reading without expert backing and the consideration of past incidents for which the coach had already been sanctioned, and alleged unequal treatment.
The club also objected to the CBF moving Fluminense versus Flamengo from 11 to 12 April. It questioned why one club’s request was granted while similar pleas from others were rejected, and called for impartiality and transparency in scheduling decisions.
