According to Globo.com, the STJD plenary increased Abel Ferreira's suspension to three matches after a Friday morning hearing on his suspensive-effect appeal. The ruling has irritated Palmeiras.

Ferreira had initially been given a two-match ban for kicking a touchline microphone during the draw with Mirassol. The club sought a suspensive effect pending the plenary's review, and there is now no further right of appeal.

He will miss the next three Campeonato Brasileiro fixtures, against São Paulo, Grêmio and Bahia, the last of those in October after the FIFA break.

His act was classified as unsporting conduct under article 258 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice, which allows one to six games.

He had been due to sit out matches against Botafogo and São Paulo, but the suspensive effect kept him on the touchline for the Botafogo game.

Palmeiras has not issued a statement, though people connected to the club expressed discomfort and view the sanction as disproportionate and inconsistent with similar cases involving other coaches.

Inside the Football Academy, it is also noted that the first-instance rapporteur deemed the complaint unfounded because the refereeing team reviewed the incident and chose not to book Ferreira.

Despite disagreeing with the punishment, the club continues to discuss the coach's temperament and does not endorse all of his actions. Ferreira has acknowledged he needs to change his behaviour on the touchline.
