Liverpool weren't at their best but they managed to take all three points at Turf Moor after a late penalty sank 10-man Burnley.

Scott Parker's team were set up to frustrate the champions and for the vast majority of the game they did exactly that.

Burnley weren't afraid to get stuck in either as shown by Lesley Ugochukwu's challenge on Alexis Mac Allister early on that earned him a yellow but not quite a red.

One other player who was flirting with a red card was Milos Kerkez. Booked for diving in the 22nd minute, the Hungarian wasn't looking like such a liability that Arne Slot hooked him off in the 38th minute to bring Andy Robertson on in his stead.

The Reds couldn't get going in an attacking sense and were failing with deliveries into the box with Dominik Szoboszlai having perhaps one of their best chances, forcing Martin Dúbravka into a fine stop with an effort from outside the box.

Ugochukwu's earlier yellow card came back to haunt him late on when was given a second yellow card in the 84th minute for a challenge on the outside of the area.

With time running out, Liverpool were gifted a late penalty when substitute Rio Ngumoha sent in a ball from the right that hit the elbow of Hannibal Mejbri with Michael Oliver pointing to the top.

Mohamed Salah was not at his best but you're unlikely to see a better under-pressure penalty all season with the Egyptian smashing the ball into the top corner to give his team the win with just seconds of stoppage time left.

It was harsh on Burnley who had defended so solidly for over 90 minutes but Liverpool eventually managed to put themselves back on the top of the table.
