In the wake of Strasbourg’s takeover by BlueCo – the consortium headed by Chelsea owner Todd Boehly – the Alsatians appear set to step up a gear in their transfer dealings this summer, especially as they look to recover from a season which saw the team face a relegation battle for much of the year.
According to L’Équipe this afternoon, the Ligue 1 side are interested in Salzburg striker Sékou Koïta, who still has another year left on his contract with the Austrians.
The 23-year-old’s prospective transfer fee has been estimated at just under €10m. An injury-hit campaign last year nevertheless saw him put away six goals and register five assists. Koïta scored 14 league goals in the previous campaign, which was also interrupted by injury as well as a three-month ban over a breach in UEFA’s doping regulations. The forward joined Salzburg back in 2018 from his native Mali, and has also undergone loan spells at Wolfsberg and Liefering.
