Strasbourg vs PSG – Match preview and team news

  1. Date: Sunday, 1st February.
  2. Kick-off: 7:45pm BST.
  3. Venue: Stade de La Meinau, Strasbourg.

Strasbourg team news

The Alsatian outfit will be without several key personnel. Club captain Emanuel Emegha continues to battle a leg injury and remains unavailable. Additionally, Mathis Amougou (ankle), Andrew Omobamidele (calf strain), and Maxi Oyedele are all sidelined through injury and will not feature in this encounter.

However, Strasbourg’s attacking focus will centre on Argentine forward Joaquín Panichelli, who has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s most prolific performers. The 23-year-old forward has netted eleven league goals in nineteen matches for Les Racing this season, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.

Panichelli scored and provided an assist in last weekend’s dominant display against Lille. His physical presence and penalty-area positioning have drawn admiration.

PSG team news

Paris Saint-Germain face a selection headache heading into this encounter, with Luis Enrique forced to adapt his lineup due to injury concerns.

Most significantly, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s right ankle sprain, sustained during the recent Champions League match against Newcastle, means the Georgian winger will miss this fixture, with the club estimating an 8-10 day absence. The injury has opened the door for Désiré Doué to assume a starting role in the attacking department.

Midfielder Fabián Ruiz continues his treatment for a left knee contusion and will not feature, having missed PSG’s previous twomatches after sustaining the injury in Lisbon against Sporting. Lee Kang-in has returned to training following recovery from an ankle injury, while Quentin Ndjantou remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a muscle injury sustained in late December.

In positive news, new recruit Dro Fernández is fully fit and eligible for selection, potentially allowing him to make his debut this weekend. Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier is expected to start ahead of Matvei Safonov.

Form

Strasbourg

Gary O’Neil’s side has produced a stunning turnaround since his arrival, extending their unbeaten run to eight matches across all competitions. A comprehensive 4-1 dismantling of Lille last weekend showcased the attacking potency and resilience that has characterized their recent performances.

The Racing side earned a dominant 2-1 victory over local rivals Metz in the derby earlier in their streak, demonstrating an ability to perform under pressure. Currently seventh in the Ligue 1 standings with 30 points, Strasbourg are just one point adrift of sixth-placed Rennes and remain firmly in contention for European qualification.

PSG

PSG will be looking to bounce back after missing out on direct qualification to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League after drawing with Newcastle in their last match of the UCL group phase.

However they are doing well in the Ligue 1 as they have won their last five matches in the league and will go top of the table if they secure all the three points against Strasbourg. Last week, they won 1-0 against Auxerre away from home.

Predicted lineups

Strasbourg: Penders; G. Doue, Sarr, Doukoure, Chilwell; Barco, El Mourabet; Moreira, Enciso, Godo; Panichelli

PSG: Chevalier; Hakimi, Zabarnyi, Beraldo, Hernandez; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Mbaye; D. Doue, Dembele, Barcola
