Striking duo sidelined after Dorival Júnior arrives at Corinthians

The future of Talles Magno and Ángel Romero at Corinthians remains uncertain. Despite being important names in the squad, both forwards lost their place in the second half of the year following the rise of Vitinho and Gui Negão, and there are no guarantees they will continue with the club in 2026. Both have contracts until December 31.

On loan from New York City, Talles Magno started the season in great style, scoring four goals in the first six rounds of the Paulistão. Even without being a regular starter, he became a standout and turned into the main headache for Ramón Díaz's coaching staff, finishing the first quarter as the team's top scorer.

His good performance led the management to extend the loan with the American club. However, two weeks after the agreement, the forward was hospitalized to treat pneumonia and has since been unable to regain the same level of performance.

Under Ramón Díaz, Talles had an average of one goal every 161 minutes. With Dorival Júnior, the number jumped to 275 minutes per goal involvement. Additionally, in Corinthians' last ten games, he played only 182 minutes.

Despite the drop in performance, there is still no decision about his future. The management remains focused on the ongoing competitions — the Brazilian Championship and the Copa do Brasil, which will have a semifinal in December — and will likely only start talks with New York City afterward.

Romero's situation is similar. The Paraguayan, who once wore the captain's armband, accumulated 1,444 minutes under Ramón Díaz, being a starter in 13 matches, with four goals and two assists during that period.

However, with the change in the coaching staff, his performance declined. Under Dorival Júnior, he has 901 minutes in 19 games, but without any goal involvement. Even though he was frequently called upon, he lost his place in recent weeks and played only 173 minutes in the last ten matches.

With the contract about to expire, the scenario is similar to last year: talks between the club and representatives are expected to occur only after the season ends. However, the forward's high salary is an obstacle and makes his stay seem unlikely. So far, there have been no negotiations for renewal.
