Filippo Mane is reportedly among the winners of Borussia Dortmund's pre-season, according to a report in the Ruhr Nachrichten.

The center-half has overtaken his Italian compatriot and positional rival Luca Reggiani in the internal pecking order.

"Filippo is making progress. That's down to his hard work. We've adjusted things; we know what problems he's had.

"We've improved that over the past weeks and months. If he stays this healthy, he'll certainly be a good player for us," said coach Niko Kovac.

This has sporting implications for Reggiani, which according to the WAZ, leaves the defensive talent with two options.

Reggiani will likely either be forced to make appearances for the reserve team in the Regionalliga or go out on loan.

Last season, the 18-year-old made eight appearances for Borussia Dortmund's first team due to injury-related absences.

The defender's development has not gone unnoticed in his home country – in June he made his debut for the Italian national team.

Furthermore, a handful of unnamed Serie A clubs are reportedly interested in signing him given his growing potential.
