Cohen Bramall was released by Portsmouth at the end of the 2024/25 season before joining Luton Town on a free this summer
Cohen Bramall left Portsmouth this summer upon the expiry of his short-term contract on the south coast subsequently joining League One outfit Luton Town on a free transfer - and it may be a decision that the Fratton Park hierarchy come to regret.
Having comfortably survived in the EFL Championship last season in what was their first campaign back in the second tier, Portsmouth have struggled to build upon that strong finish.
Pompey sit just above the relegation zone, amassing 20 points from 20 games, with only Sheffield Wednesday having netted fewer than their 17 goals thus far this season.
John Mousinho has earned plaudits for guiding the club back to the second tier after lingering in the third and fourth tiers for years prior, yet this season, he is facing criticism for one of the first times during his tenure at Fratton Park.
A 2-1 home win over Blackburn Rovers in their most recent outing meant they remain out of the relegation zone for now, but with Norwich City and Oxford United breathing down their neck, they are far from safe.
With one of the smallest budgets in the division, Portsmouth were always likely to struggle, and they may now regret letting left-back Cohen Bramall leave the club this summer after seeing his exploits for Luton Town in League One - coupled with their own struggles in that position.

Luton themselves have struggled to hit the heights that were expected of them this season after relegation from the Championship last season, with Matt Bloomfield having already been replaced by Jack Wilshere.
In their most recent 2-2 draw at home to struggling Port Vale, the Hatters took the lead via a sublime free-kick from Bramall.
Indeed, this goal would have been extra sweet for Bramall, who spent a large portion of his early career playing for the likes of Kidsgrove Athletic, Alsager Town, and Newcastle Town around the North Staffordshire and South Cheshire area, where Port Vale reside.
It would not, however, be sweet for Portsmouth to see who may well be regretting not extending the left-back's deal at Fratton Park, having joined the club on a short-term deal from Rotherham United in January 2025 and making just 12 appearances for the club.
Whilst only starting four times for Pompey, Bramall was a useful short-term addition, and with their lack of natural options at left-back as it currently stands, John Mousinho will probably be longing for him right now.
Now in League One with Luton, despite the Hatters' poor run of form, they will still hold real ambitions of an immediate return to the Championship with Bramall in the side, whilst Portsmouth, on the other hand, face a battle to stay there.

Despite their recent victory over Blackburn, in what may prove to be a crucial one come the end of the season, Portsmouth face the real prospect of relegation this season.
This was just their second win in the last 11 outings, and they are currently averaging one point per game at the moment, which may well prove to not be enough to keep them in the division, having not been enough in the past two campaigns.
With the Championship tighter than ever, if Pompey can put together a couple of wins, it could see them shoot up the table and give them some breathing space for a short period of time.
Their home form was crucial to their survival last season, as they sat in 8th place for home form last campaign, whereas they currently sit 18th.
Mousinho must find a way to improve their home form if survival is on the cards, with their away record even worse.
With Connor Ogilvie out of action, Zak Swanson has been covering at left-back, and now would be the perfect time for Bramall to come into the squad and make his mark, as Mousinho may well hold some regrets for not keeping him at Portsmouth.
Bramall is now doing it at a lower level though, and as shown in recent times, he's discovered quite a penchant for taking long shots from range, and has added free-kicks to his résumé too - he may be 29 years of age now, but the ex-Arsenal man is still honing his craft after being a late addition to the professional game.
