Amid Sport Bild reports that Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart are interested in serving as Bayern Munich talent Paul Wanner’s next loan locale, Kicker claims that the latter club take a greater interest. The German youth international – following a disappointing end to his FC Heidenheim loan stint – will not be heading to the Club World Cup this summer with his parent club. A new loan next year is planned.
Bayern have little interest in offering Wanner a chance to regain his form. As such, the 19-year-old will attempt to establish himself with the Germany U21s at this summer’s U21 European championship. Stuttgart themselves must prepare a squad worthy of European competition next season after winning the DFB Pokal last weekend. Wanner’s undeniable potential could help out Sebastian Hoeneß’ Swabians.
Stuttgart have done little in the summer transfer market beyond shedding players. Loanees Fabian Rieder and El Bilal Touré have been sent back to their parent clubs. Josha Vagnoman, Enzo Millot, and Anrie Chase all count as likely-to-depart. South Korean attacker Woo-Yeong Jeong signed permanently with FC Union Berlin yesterday.
While there are plenty of rumors linking Stuttgart with new attacking additions this summer, Wanner seems a solid pick to replace Millot on a like-for-like basis. Bayern also wish to loan Wanner out to a club competing in Europe next year. Stuttgart’s qualification via the domestic cup title renders this possible.
The youngster himself is in on the uptick after assisting on the dramatic late winning goal that helped Heidenheim secure Bundesliga football next season in Monday’s promotion-relegation playoff leg. Wanner sunk his former loan club SV Elversberg by setting up Leo Scienza’s 2-1 at 90+5.
