Stuttgart ‘to target’ NEC Nijmegen’s Kodai Sano

VfB Stuttgart have identified NEC Nijmegen’s Kodai Sano as a possible summer signing, Omroep Gelderland reports.

The 22-year-old has previously drawn interest from bigger clubs including Ajax Amsterdam and Nottingham Forest.

He was not permitted to depart at the time and remained a key pillar across the campaign. With Sano and others, NEC finished third and could still reach the Champions League through qualification.

Across 39 competitive appearances, the press-resistant box-to-box midfielder recorded three goals and seven assists.

Sano is likely to attract multiple suitors again this summer, with PSV Eindhoven among the clubs monitoring him. PSV are weighing him up as a potential replacement for Ismael Saibari, who is on the verge of joining Bayern Munich.
