Both teams have been mired in poor form since the start of December, accumulating just nine points apiece. The hosts' biggest problem is drawing too many games, six in their last ten. 5/2 is offered up for a stalemate this Sunday.

For the Eagles, it's a notable reduction in firepower that has undone them, with just seven goals scored in ten, only three from open play.

The January additions of Brennan Johnson and Jorgen Strand Larsen should improve them in this regard. To what extent, remains to be seen.

Sensational Sarr

Ismaila Sarr was sensational in this exact fixture last season, bagging twice and assisting, and lightning is tipped to strike twice after the Senegalese talent converted from the spot last weekend, his first goal since early October.

That's because Sarr has an uncanny - and sustained - tendency to register goal involvements in short bursts before fading back into the pack. There was a goal and an assist in quick succession last autumn. Two in two in August. He ended last season with a three-game sequence of goal involvements and racked up three in two at the start of 2025.

Reasons for this are hard to fathom but the pattern is there for all to see. Brighton should be worried.

Van Hecke a booking in waiting

Only Wolves and Bournemouth have committed more fouls than the Seagulls this term and it's Jan Paul van Hecke who most grabs the attention, the centre-back booked in three of his last six league starts. Pertinently, he was also cautioned in the 0-0 drab-fest at Selhurst Park earlier this season.

Moreover, the Dutch defender's foul involvements are on the rise, with 13 in his last four outings compared to six in his four games prior.

A lot has been made of Manchester City's second half struggles this term and rightly so. Pep Guardiola's men have conceded on just six occasions in the first half of their league games in 2025/26. That jumps sharply to 17 after the break.

This is a red flag given their opponents on Sunday. Liverpool have converted two thirds of their league haul in the latter period. Indeed, only Arsenal have scored more second half goals.

Ekitike keeps on firing

The hosts have lacked a clinical edge this season, a flaw best illustrated by the following data. The Merseysiders have taken on 32 more shots than City since August yet City have registered 13 more on target.

Hugo Ekitike has to take his portion of the blame for this, though with a goal every 134 minutes he can be excused. And to the French international's credit he doesn't let the misses affect him, plugging away with multiple attempts per 90.

In fact, since the start of December the striker has let fly every 15.8 minutes at Anfield across all comps.

Semenyo shoots early

It's an obvious point but City's attacking roster have to come up with the goods at the weekend if they are the keep the Blues' title hopes alive. That's no mean feat at a ground where they have won only once since 2003.

Step forward Antoine Semenyo who - along with Ryan Cherki, who has carved out three chances per 90 this term - will be key in exploiting half-spaces while Liverpool's centre-backs are preoccupied by Erling Haaland.

Only three top-flight players have taken on more shots than the impactful winger in 2025/26 but it's the timing of them that interests us here. Since joining City, the 26-year-old has registered ten efforts, seven of which have come in the first half.

Gravenberch in the thick of it

The Reds have out-fouled City in eight of their last ten meetings, averaging a misdemeanour every 8.1 minutes. Acknowledging this leads us to Ryan Gravenberch who registered three foul involvements in this exact fixture last season, and a further three at the Etihad last November.In that latter clash other team-mates racked up more, most notably Alexis Mac Allister. The Dutch midfielder however is Mr Consistent in this regard.
