Sunderland have added Alexandra Louis-Dreyfus and Tom Burwell to their board as non-executive directors.
The club said in a statement that both join from today in part-time roles without day-to-day duties, attending board meetings and offering guidance.
Bia Sports Group oversees the sporting portfolio of Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori, including Sunderland and investments in supercross and Rugby Sevens. Burwell is its chief executive and currently leads that portfolio, having previously held leadership roles in Rugby and Formula One.
Alexandra Louis-Dreyfus holds a master’s degree from the University of Chicago and has advised the club across the past five years. She is the wife of chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus.
Burwell is the latest Bia figure to assume added responsibility at Sunderland after Mike Papadimitriou became chief financial officer last year.
The appointments follow the death of non-executive director Patrick Treuer in December. He had been chief financial officer of Louis Dreyfus Company B.V. since 2014 and played an active role in the rise from League One to the Premier League. Condolences were sent to his family and loved ones.
Sky Sports presenter David Jones left his non-executive role over the summer. The board now comprises Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, Juan Sartori, Alexandra Louis-Dreyfus, Maurice Louis-Dreyfus, Igor Levin, Simon Vumbaca, Leo Pearlman and Tom Burwell.
