Sunderland aim to protect their unbeaten home record while Liverpool chase Champions League points, with both sides carrying selection issues before Wednesday night’s Premier League meeting.

According to Sunderland Echo, Dominik Szoboszlai is suspended after a late red card in the defeat to Manchester City following a controversial VAR intervention.

The Hungarian had been deputising at right back and is a significant miss for Arne Slot in a testing campaign.

Joe Gomez is a major doubt. Liverpool hoped he would train on Tuesday to help address the right back shortage, but his involvement remains uncertain.

Noah Sadiki is available. He appeared in discomfort before being substituted at Arsenal on Saturday, though Régis Le Bris says he is fine for Wednesday.

Granit Xhaka is out with an ankle issue. He is making progress but is still a couple of weeks away, potentially three.
