In a recent report, Il Mattino mentioned that Sunderland are keen on recruiting Napoli midfielder Frank Anguissa this summer. It has been claimed that the Black Cats are eager to land the Cameroonian midfield ace in this transfer window.

Anguissa’s Impressive Form In Serie A

Anguissa served as an important member of Napoli’s squad in the previous campaign when he put in a string of impressive performances for them at the centre of the park. The 30-year-old found the back of the net four times and picked up two assists in 22 appearances for the Naples-based outfit last season in multiple competitions.

The Cameroonian talent is currently one of the most experienced central midfielders in Serie A. Therefore, Sunderland would do well to lure him to the Stadium of Light this month.

His current contract at the Italian club will run out at the end of next season, which could open the door for the Black Cats to sign him on the cheap in this transfer window.

What Will Anguissa Bring To Sunderland?

Anguissa is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team in the middle of the park. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is a good passer as well from midfield.

The Cameroonian sensation mainly plays as a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder if told to do so by his manager. He has already got some experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Wearside club.

We can expect Anguissa to bring more quality and depth to Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’ midfield department. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the Stadium of Light next season.

At 30, Anguissa might still have a few good years left in him to play at a high level. Hence, it makes sense for the Black Cats to try and sign him on a short-term contract before the end of this transfer window. Anguissa has the experience to help Sunderland compete across all fronts over the next couple of years.
