Sunderland are accelerating recruitment for Régis Le Bris’ Premier League and Europa League campaign, prioritising a right-sided attacker and left-sided defensive reinforcements. Updates concern Matías Soulé, Geny Catamo, Dayann Methalie, Ernest Poku and Josh Doig.
A Bola reported exploratory contact over Sporting’s Catamo without a bid, while Record claimed an offer was rejected and talks had cooled. Fabrizio Romano said Soulé’s Roma exit is “very concrete” this window. RMC reported Methalie agreed a five-year deal and Sacha Tavolieri claimed he has chosen Sunderland, while the Daily Record reported interest in Sassuolo’s Doig.
Sporting are reluctant to sell Catamo, whose contract carries a €60million clause, about £51million, and Sunderland have explored a price well below that. He is one of several right-sided options, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Ernest Poku also assessed.
Talks for Toulouse defender Methalie are extensive. An improved proposal has been reported at more than €25million, around £21.4million, including add-ons, with Toulouse seeking closer to €30million, roughly £25.7million, and president Olivier Cloarec saying discussions continue without agreement. He missed their latest game with a minor injury, with no indication it was linked to negotiations.
Wilson Isidor is not for sale despite outside interest, including from West Ham and a reported Hull City bid, and the club do not intend to entertain offers.
Leo Hjelde is close to joining KV Mechelen on a permanent deal, with a four-year contract agreed. He is not expected to feature in either of Saturday’s friendlies with RC Lens.
