A boyhood Sunderland fan, the midfielder has been a mainstay of the U21s in recent seasons while training regularly with the senior group. He made his senior debut in 2024/25 and featured in several matchday squads last season.

He came off the bench in February 2025 in a 2-1 away win at Sheffield Wednesday, and captained the U21s in the Premier League Cup final in May.

Sunderland had exercised an option to extend his contract by a year, but had already told him he was free to pursue other opportunities this summer.

The club has wished him well as he begins the next stage of his career at Peterborough.
