Sunderland are among several Premier League sides tracking Union Saint-Gilloise striker Promise David, with West Ham viewed as front-runners, according to TEAMtalk.
The report adds that Newcastle United, West Ham, Leeds United, Sunderland and Brighton have scouted him closely this season.
David’s path has been unconventional, taking in Croatia, Malta and Estonia before joining Union SG. He hit 24 goals in his first season and has 15 this term.
According to the report, Newcastle have monitored him for months and value his physicality and ability to play across the front line. West Ham are said to have held initial talks.
The report notes he showed little appetite to swap Champions League football for a side near the bottom of the Premier League, though the Hammers could revisit the move if they stay up.
Sunderland have sent scouts to Belgium multiple times, returning positive assessments. Leeds are keeping tabs, and Brighton are also in the frame, in line with their recruitment approach.
Internationally, David is expected to represent Canada at the upcoming World Cup under Jesse Marsch, having previously played for Nigeria at under-23 level. His dual-nationality has added to the interest.
Union Saint-Gilloise are braced for strong summer interest from England. Sunderland’s level of intent remains unclear, but they are among those monitoring developments.
