Sunderland are stepping up plans to reinforce for the new Premier League campaign and their first venture into the Europa League. They have been linked with Ivory Coast international Christ Inao Oulaï and Celtic playmaker Arne Engels, with Fulham and Brentford also in the frame for one target.
225Foot reports that Sunderland are monitoring Oulaï after a strong first season at Trabzonspor in the Turkish Super Lig. The 20-year-old produced two goals and four assists in 31 games as Trabzon finished third, behind Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
His progress earned a World Cup finals call-up with Ivory Coast, and he hopes to win his 12th cap against Curacao on Thursday night.
The Daily Record claims Engels has switched agents and has told Celtic he will make a firm decision on his future before pre-season. He joined from German club Augsberg in 2024 for a reported £11m and has 17 goals and 21 assists in 98 appearances.
The report adds that Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Fulham have shown interest, while Napoli, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund have also tracked the four-times capped Belgium international. Two weeks into the summer window, Sunderland are yet to add a signing after Regis Le Bris led them to seventh on their top-flight return.
