Sunderland have completed a second summer arrival and are progressing a third, with their transfer outlay set against Premier League rivals as the window enters its final stretch with just over one week until deadline day.
Belgium international Thomas Meunier joined last month on a two-year deal after leaving Lille. A £25.7m move for Toulouse full-back Dayann Methalie was confirmed on Friday, and Sunderland Echo understands there is interest in Royal Antwerp’s DR Congo youth international Jules Ahoka, with an £8.6m switch under discussion for the Europa League-bound squad.
Sales of Eliezer Mayenda, Anthony Patterson and Ahmed Abdullahi have trimmed the spend, while Dennis Cirkin, Arthur Masuaku, Niall Huggins and Lutsharel Geertruida have come off the wage bill since the end of last season.
