Wilson Isidor has been heavily linked with a move to the London Stadium this summer

Sunderland have confirmed that Haitian international striker, Wilson Isidor, has signed a new long-term contract at the Stadium of Light, which has a significant impact on the transfer plans of Championship side, West Ham United.

The Hammers had been pinpointed as favourites to win the Championship under Nuno Espírito Santo before the campaign got underway, but it has been far from the ideal start for the East London club.

Indeed, West Ham, despite making progress in the EFL Cup, are winless from their first two second tier matches in 14 years, drawing with fellow newly-relegated side, Burnley, at Turf Moor, before suffering a shock 2-1 loss to Charlton Athletic at the London Stadium.

That is despite the fact that Nuno has been able to retain the services of many high-profile players despite the big-money sales of Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville earlier in the summer window.

However, only a handful of incomings have been made throughout the Portuguese's squad, which has only added to concerns with there being so little time between now and the transfer deadline, which comes at 11PM on Tuesday, September 1st.

Isidor has been with the Black Cats since the beginning of the 2024/25 season, initially joining on loan from Zenit St Petersburg - a move which was later turned permanent in early 2025.

Sunderland then went on to end their eight-year hiatus from the Premier League in Regis Le Bris' first campaign at the Stadium of Light, with the forward scoring 13 Championship goals, before a further six last term, despite starting just 11 Premier League games, helped the North East club secure UEFA Europa League football.

However, the 26-year-old has been the subject of intense exit talk this summer, with West Ham rivalling Ipswich Town and Hull City for his services.

But, just days ahead of the transfer window closing, it has been confirmed by the top-flight side that Isidor, who was reportedly eyeing a pay rise ahead of the new season, has signed fresh terms until 2030, meaning the chances of the Hammers bolstering their frontline with his goal threat are all-but over.

After netting once in the FIFA World Cup for Haiti against Morocco on June 24th, Isidor's immediate future has been up in the air, whilst West Ham have been linked with a plethora of strikers since the opening of the transfer window.

Despite being able to lure Joel Piroe back to the EFL from Leeds United through an initial loan move which includes an obligation-to-buy clause, they weren't successful in their aim of doing the same with the Sunderland attacker, who revealed that the club's divisional status was a key factor in penning his new contract.

“I’m very happy to continue my journey with Sunderland. This Club has given me some great memories already, and I feel there is still a lot more to achieve here," Isidor said.

“Playing in the Premier League and representing Haiti at the World Cup have been special moments for me, and now I’m focused on continuing to improve, helping the team and giving everything I can for the supporters.”

West Ham may have broke the Championship's transfer fee record this window with the £22m signing of Arne Engels, but there are still valid concerns over the club's overall strategy in the market.

As well as Piroe, Manor Solomon provides Championship-winning experience on the left-wing from his loan at Leeds two summers ago, but Nuno will be hoping his current attacking options can step up to the mark if any further additions cannot be sourced.

Taty Castellanos impressed with six goals in 18 Premier League games last season, but is yet to open his Championship account after a shocking penalty miss against the Addicks, and whilst Piroe is a proven goal-getter in the division, Pablo is yet to convince many that he was worth £18.3m from Gil Vicente in January.
