Sunderland look set to complete further business before the 7pm deadline, and Jamie Redknapp says their recruitment has earned supporters’ trust.
The Black Cats broke their transfer record twice in the summer, turning loan star Enzo Le Fee into a £20m permanent signing, then paying £30m for Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra after fending off Leeds United.
Granit Xhaka also returned to the Premier League from Bayer Leverkusen, quickly becoming integral to Regis Le Bris’ squad. Goalkeeper Robin Roefs, midfielder Noah Sadiki and defenders Nordi Mukiele and Omar Alderete have impressed in a push towards European places.
January has been more measured, with academy graduates Dan Neil and Anthony Patterson loaned to Ipswich Town and Millwall. Timothee Pembele, Aji Alese and Arthur Massuaku have also departed on loan. Summer arrival Simon Adingra is set for a Monaco loan that could become permanent, and Sunderland have agreed a deal for Anderlecht and Ecuador star Nilsun Angulo.
“The recruitment has been brilliant during the summer and they added a lot of pace and energy. I looked at the team that came up and I thought they’d be 20 points maximum.” he told Sky Sports News.
“The interesting one is Adingra. He thought ‘ok, he’s going to go on a run’ but he’s moved on again. These agents, they like moving on their players. Sometimes you can’t always figure it out but you have to trust their recruitment if you’re a Sunderland fan.”
