Sunderland share cheeky Granit Xhaka post after fresh transfer twist | OneFootball

Sunderland flagged Granit Xhakas decision to stay with a cheeky social post on Friday night after he reaffirmed his commitment this week, Sunderland Echo reports.

Chelsea have not given up on the 33-year-old, and Xabi Alonso is keen on a reunion after their success at Bayer Leverkusen, but Sunderland are reassured their captain will lead them into Europe next season.

The club rebuffed an 3 million offer from Chelsea last weekend, judging it derisory given Xhakas influence on and off the pitch. He had been open to exploring the move, but has now chosen to remain on Wearside to protect his bond with supporters.

Soon after the update, the clubs accounts echoed the terrace chant in his honour and noted he is due back on Tuesday, when Switzerland face either Colombia or Ghana in the FIFA World Cup last 16. Xhaka then shared the post.

They also uploaded footage of him singing along to Cant Help Falling In Love With You with his family at the Stadium of Light on the final day, captioned Sunderlands Granit Xhaka. He reposted that clip too.
