Sunderland are on course for record revenues after promotion to the Premier League, with progress on the pitch fuelling significant financial growth.

According to Football Insider, 2024-25 accounts show revenue up from £38.2m to £40.3m in the promotion season, and top-flight income is on track to beat the £126m club record set in 2016-17.

Régis Le Bris’s side sit 11th after a dramatic 2-1 win at St James’s Park. The report adds that holding that spot could deliver more than £130m in prize and broadcast money.

Such gains would bolster sustainability and transfer capacity as Florent Ghisolfi refines recruitment. The league’s distribution means even mid-table finishes return substantial sums.

The mood on Wearside swelled after the derby. Brian Brobbey’s late winner sparked a viral moment as he tore off his shirt and beat his chest in front of Newcastle fans.

The celebration drew focus in the Netherlands, where his Ajax fitness had been questioned. “Not for that. I trained hard, yeah, I trained very hard. I have been to the gym a lot. Naturally, I was very happy. It’s a derby.” He was speaking to ESPN.

“No, that doesn’t have to have anything to do with the Netherlands at all. I was just very happy.”
