Sunderland are being linked with Celtic’s Arne Engels while Rennes step up for Eliezer Mayenda, amid separate claims over Matty Young, Anthony Patterson and exits.
Foot Mercato reports Rennes are making a strong push to sign Mayenda. The forward is understood to want more regular football and, with a deal to 2030, Sunderland hold a strong hand.
Sunderland are credited with interest in Engels, 22, who has four Belgium caps and is under contract at Celtic until 2028. Nottingham Forest reportedly had bids rejected in January, the last said to be £25million, and remain keen. Fulham are also said to be in the mix despite being without a head coach after Marco Silva’s exit.
Matty Young has been linked with a loan to Huddersfield Town to aid his development after spells with Darlington and Salford City. Interest from Wrexham and Millwall is said to value Anthony Patterson at £8million to £10million, which would test Sunderland’s plans.
Blackburn Rovers are said to have had a £650,000 bid, rising to £1million, rejected for former Sunderland academy forward Sam Greenwood. Harrison Jones has joined Peterborough United on a free transfer with a sell-on clause attached.
Alan Browne has returned to the Stadium of Light after his season at Middlesbrough and is still expected to leave this summer.
