Sunderland face a pivotal summer as they gear up for a historic campaign, so here are the key 2026 transfer window dates and rules.
The Premier League has confirmed the window opens on Monday, 15 June. It will close at 11pm on Tuesday, 1 September, moved from the seven pm deadline used over the last two years.
Clubs may line up agreements before opening day, but registrations cannot be finalised until the window is live. Expect announcements now, with paperwork completed once the system opens.
A deal sheet grants an extra two hours once clubs lodge an agreement. For an 11pm cut-off, it cannot be filed before nine pm and must arrive before the deadline, giving clubs until one am to finish paperwork.
Just under a fortnight after a final-day home win over Chelsea, Sunderland officially booked Europa League football and a first competitive European night at the Stadium of Light. The calendar will swell as Regis Le Bris’ side enter UEFA’s league phase.
They are set for at least eight extra matches alongside Juventus, Marseille and AC Milan, with more to come if they reach the knockouts, and further congestion possible in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. Darren Williams has warned that depth will be vital, while Wrexham are said to be tracking goalkeeper Anthony Patterson and forward Eliezer Mayenda is reportedly on Championship newcomers West Ham United’s radar.
