Sunderland’s summer business can formally begin soon, with the Premier League window set to open as the club readies for a historic European campaign.

Sunderland Echo notes that the Premier League summer window opens on Monday 15 June and closes on Tuesday 1 September, later than the 7pm cut-off used over the last two years.

Just under a fortnight has passed since a home win over Chelsea on the final day confirmed Europa League qualification and ensured the Stadium of Light will host competitive European football for the first time.

Regis Le Bris’ squad face a congested calendar, with at least eight extra matches in the league phase of UEFA’s secondary club competition, more if they reach the knockouts, plus possible progress in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Clubs may arrange agreements before 15 June, which is why some moves are announced early, but players cannot be registered with the Premier League until the window opens.

A deal sheet can be used to confirm an agreement before the deadline, granting an extra two hours to complete the remaining paperwork.

For an 11pm cut-off, the form cannot be submitted before 9pm and must land before the window shuts, after which clubs have until 1am to finalise the transfer.
