Sunderland have unveiled three bespoke hummel goalkeeper kits for 2026/27, honouring club great Jimmy Montgomery. They are on sale now online and in the club’s stores.
According to Sunderland Echo, the home strip mirrors the green and red worn at Wembley in 1973, marking his starring display against Leeds United. Montgomery remains the club’s record appearance holder with 627.
His signature sits at the back of the neck on all three shirts, and is repeated across the yellow away design.
The third shirt is orange and carries the old ship crest, with 627 picked out repeatedly in darker orange.
Adult short-sleeve is £65 and long-sleeve £70, with junior short-sleeve £50 and long-sleeve £55.
Sunderland’s chief commercial officer Scott McCubbin said Montgomery is woven into the club’s fabric. He added the collection is both a tribute and a standard for any goalkeeper, and said they believed the launch carries that legacy.
The kits form part of wider recognition of Montgomery, after the West Stand was renamed The Jimmy Montgomery stand ahead of 2025/26. A new statue has been commissioned for the end of Legend’s Way, expected to be installed sometime in early 2027, and Bob Stokoe’s statue will be moved alongside.
