Sunderland v Man Utd team news as Martinez back, Ballard banned, Sesko a doubt

Sunderland return to Premier League action on Saturday when Manchester United visit the Stadium of Light, with a top-half push and European hopes still alive. United arrive in excellent form under Michael Carrick. Their win over Liverpool last week has all but secured Champions League qualification.

Both Michael Carrick and Le Bris have near full-strength squads, though each could be without key options in certain areas. Sunderland Echo reports the latest team news from both camps.

Lisandro Martinez is available after serving a three-match suspension for violent conduct, imposed for pulling the hair of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. He is likely to come straight back into the starting XI.

Dan Ballard is out after the FA rejected Sunderland’s appeal this week, so he begins a three-match ban on Saturday. That leaves Le Bris with a significant call at centre-back and right-back.

Benjamin Sesko is a doubt, having been withdrawn at half-time last week after aggravating a shin issue when he collided with the advertising hoardings. If he misses out, Amad could return to the XI.

Nilson Angulo has trained this week and is available to rejoin the squad. Le Bris has strongly hinted he will be used initially as an impact substitute.
