Ethan Moore’s proposed permanent switch to Gateshead is at risk amid uncertainty over manager Rob Elliot’s future with the National League club.
Moore joined Gateshead on loan during the second half of the 2025/26 season. He scored his first senior goal on the final day in a defeat at Altrincham, then returned to Sunderland. Sunderland Echo understands he was in line for a permanent move to the International Stadium after that promising stint.
The versatile 21-year-old is expected to leave Sunderland when his contract expires this summer, and there had been an expectation he would sign for Gateshead following his loan.
In April, Elliot said the forward was still learning and building fitness, praised his drive and attitude, and hoped to secure him for the future, noting significant potential.
That plan could now be shelved, with Elliot’s own position shrouded in major doubt. He is believed to be on the brink of stepping down after struggling to agree a plan to move the club forwards on and off the pitch following meetings in recent weeks.
