Sunderland sit 13th in the Premier League five-year net spend list on £-116.32m after their rise from League One.

According to Sunderland Echo, they have made just one signing so far this summer as Regis Le Bris readies a Europa League campaign.

Last summer was a rebuild, with Robin Roefs, Granit Xhaka and Brian Brobbey among the arrivals. That window helped deliver a seventh-place finish and only the second European qualification in the club’s history.

Some of that outlay was offset by sales, including Jobe Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund and Academy product Tommy Watson to Brighton and Hove Albion. Eliezer Mayenda has since joined Rennes in a deal that reportedly yielded a significant profit on the £1m paid in 2023.

Across the division, Chelsea top the five-year net spend chart on £-861.97m, followed by Tottenham £-680.43m, Manchester United £-610.71m and Arsenal £-570.73m. Manchester City are at £-480.86m, Liverpool £-454.44m and Newcastle United £-292.23m. At the other end, Aston Villa show £11.62m.
