Sunderland have confirmed highly rated full-back Jenson Jones has signed a new two-year contract.
The academy defender agreed fresh terms after an encouraging under-21 campaign and time around Régis Le Bris’ first-team group. He made 14 league appearances for the under-21s and regularly trained with the senior squad.
Jones was named on the bench for several Premier League fixtures, highlighting his progress and the pathway in front of him. The deal rewards that development and offers him the chance to impress in pre-season as Sunderland prepare for another campaign.
He views the agreement as a big opportunity and hopes to show what he can do in pre-season, aiming to be around the first team. He credits exposure to the senior group for accelerating his development, with team-mates helping him grow.
Having come through the academy, being so close to the first team has sharpened his ambition. The contract also reflects the club’s belief in his ability after strong under-21 performances and consistent involvement with the seniors.
