Sunderland head into the final international break on a high after Brian Brobbey’s last-minute winner sealed a Tyne-Wear derby success, and attention now turns to their projected Premier League finish.

Sunderland Echo notes that Opta’s model forecasts the Black Cats to end the season 12th on 51.15 points. They currently sit 11th and are three points off the European places.

Regis Le Bris’ side fell behind inside the opening 10 minutes when Anthony Gordon punished a Luke O’Nien header to put Newcastle ahead at St James Park.

Chemsdine Talbi levelled just before the hour, unsettling the hosts as Sunderland chased a decisive strike to complete a league double and extend their unbeaten league derby run to an 11th game.

It arrived in the final minute when Brobbey beat Aaron Ramsdale at the second attempt, sparking wild celebrations in the away end.

Le Bris hailed a big achievement, saying two derby wins in the same year mean a lot to the group. He described a tough first half, accepted the goal came from their mistake, and praised his players’ reaction and half-time realignment. He added that Newcastle operate at a high level after recent Champions League action and that Sunderland want to keep improving.

Elsewhere in the projections, Arsenal are tipped to finish top on 84.77 points, with Manchester City second, Manchester United third and Aston Villa fourth.
