Sunderland are preparing for another significant summer as they look to bolster Regis Le Bris’s squad before a first Europa League campaign. Their current squad valuation underlines the scale of the task.
According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland’s squad is estimated at €386.43m, with Manchester City at €1.32bn, Arsenal at €1.25bn and Chelsea at €1.11bn.
The Black Cats finished seventh in the Premier League last season, earning only the second European berth in their history and the first since Bob Stokoe’s 1973 FA Cup winners entered the Cup Winners’ Cup the following year.
Last summer brought club record deals for midfielders Enzo Le Fee and Habib Diarra, plus Getafe defender Omar Alderete and Dutch prospects Robin Roefs and Brian Brobbey. Perhaps the boldest move persuaded former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka to return from Bayer Leverkusen.
This window is not expected to be as hectic, but further additions are viewed as necessary to build on that progress. In the latest valuations, Sunderland sit below Brentford at €490.58m and Everton at €443.15m, and above Leeds United at €358.80m and Fulham at €356.20m.
Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur are listed at €700.00m and Newcastle United at €696.35m.
