Sunderland's World Cup involvement ended with Switzerland's quarter-final loss to Argentina, capping a landmark campaign with 12 representatives and an expected seven-figure payment via FIFA's Club Benefit Programme.

According to Sunderland Echo, clubs are paid for each day a player is at the tournament, estimated at around €5,000.

Wilson Isidor was the only Sunderland player to exit at the group stage, though he scored in Haiti's final game. Including camp days, his stint is put at around €125,000.

Eight players went out in the round of 32, bringing estimates near €150,000 each, namely Robin Roefs, Lutsharel Geertruida, Brian Brobbey, Noah Sadiki, Arthur Masuaku, Nilson Angulo, Habib Diarra and Simon Adingra. Geertruida's loan from RB Leipzig is thought to have run until 30 June.

Omar Alderete's Paraguay reached the last 16 before losing to France, which could take his total to around €175,000. For Chemsdine Talbi and Granit Xhaka, figures are likely to edge close to €200,000.

In all, Sunderland can expect roughly €1.55 million, about £1,160,000, though payments are usually shared with previous clubs over the prior two years. FIFA also pays €2,362 per qualification appearance, slightly boosting totals for Xhaka, Sadiki and Alderete. The income is modest but should trim summer wage costs.

The World Cup cohort will return to Wearside in phases, with earlier departees due to join next week's USA trip. Xhaka and Talbi will take a break and are likely to report back before the final pre-season fixtures in August.
