Joe Gelhardt came off the bench to deliver the decisive blow as Hull City beat Millwall to reach Wembley.

After a goalless first leg at home, the Leeds United loanee struck a minute after his introduction in the return, putting the Tigers 2-0 up on 79 minutes and sealing progress. That goal moved him to 15 for the season. Leeds Live notes the Tigers are keen to sign him permanently after a year of transfer restrictions.

Hull secured a play-off spot only on the final day, defeating Norwich City while play-off rivals Wrexham drew with Middlesbrough, who face Southampton in the other semi-final tonight.

Gelhardt and former Leeds midfielder Darko Gyabi are now 90 minutes from taking Hull to the Premier League.

Out of Daniel Farke’s Premier League plans, Gelhardt was initially earmarked for sale by Leeds before returning to Hull on loan, where he spent the second half of last season. He has 12 months left on his Leeds contract.

He has signalled he would like to stay at Hull if the opportunity arises, but said the decision is not solely his. In April he spoke of enjoying his best football, his love for the club and the need to take it game by game, adding that nothing is certain.
