After more than half a year without doing so, Ansu Fati returned to Barcelona’s starting line-up against RCD Mallorca, as they secured a 1-0 win over the Islanders. Fati’s previous start came on the 20th of October against Sevilla, but his appearance at Montjuic may well be one of his final outings in the Blaugrana.

The Barcelona forward has been starved of game time under Hansi Flick, and his camp are reportedly unhappy with the German manager, feeling Fati has been deprived unfairly. Flick spoke positively about the 22-year-old in preseason, but after months without playing, his tune changed, and Flick became critical of his performances in training.

Fati was offered the chance to leave in January on loan, but decided against leaving, feeling he would get game time in the second half of the season. Having failed to convince Flick, it appears his days at the club are numbered. Recently it has been claimed that Fati has decided he must go elsewhere to continue his career.

As per Jijantes, his agent Jorge Mendes is currently on his way to Barcelona to meet with the club, and discuss the future of the young forward. That will be one of several topics on the table with Mendes, who has a number of Barcelona players on his books, as well as the contract renewal for Lamine Yamal. The 17-year-old is due for a bumper contract extension, but Barcelona have little space in their salary limit.

What will help them is the recent change in La Liga rules. This week it was announced that La Liga clubs would be able to renew players under the age of 24 who had been at the club for three consecutive seasons even if they do not have space in their salary limit, giving them time until the end of the season to make up the difference – if they do not, that amount would be deducted from the limit for next season.
