Superb win against Austria Vienna

Clinical display seals another three points

Our Red Bulls seamlessly continued their European success from Thursday against Mjällby, celebrating a well-deserved 4-1 home win over Austria Vienna on Matchday 5 of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga. After a dominant first-half and a 3-0 lead at the break, our lads didn't let anything slip even after the visitors clawed a goal back.

4' & 10' – Woodwork at both ends

The visitors from Vienna got off to a slightly better start. Hettwer deflected a cross from Nnodim onto the post with his knee – Christian Zawieschitzky would have been helpless. This moment, however, proved to be the perfect wake-up call for our lads. Just six minutes later, our Red Bulls responded with full force when Nikolas Veratschnig unleashed a long-range shot that crashed against the Austria Vienna crossbar.

13' & 19' – Double strike sets the course

In the 13th minute, our team's determined pressing paid off when Yorbe Vertessen curled the ball into the centre, where Austria defender Lee, attempting to clear ahead of the lurking Tabakovic, inadvertently put it into his own net. Just six minutes later, our lads struck again: Damir Redzic and Veratschnig combined well before the latter delicately chipped the ball into the penalty area. There, striker Haris Tabakovic won his duel with Ranftl and headed home against his former club to make it 2-0 – for his first Bundesliga goal in our colours (19').

31' – Mazurek crowns a dominant half

After half an hour, our Red Bulls added a third goal. The ball found its way to Abubakr Barry via Veratschnig and Redzic, who skillfully left defender Markovic behind and set up Bartosz Mazurek. The forward wasted no time in netting his first goal for a Red Bull, firing the ball into the bottom right corner from around 20 yards out in the 31st minute. After a commanding and spirited performance, the team went into the break with a well-deserved 3-0 lead.

47', 49' & 55' – quick response

Austria Vienna had the more alert start after the break and ruthlessly exploited a lapse in concentration following a throw-in. The recently substituted Fischer reduced the deficit for the visitors to 1-3 (47'). Our lads shook off the early setback immediately and upped the tempo again. Substitute Aboubacar Camara was initially thwarted by Sahin-Radlinger in a one-on-one situation (49'), before the attacking substitute provided a perfect assist just moments later. His superb cross was easily headed home by Vertessen to make it 4-1, restoring the three-goal lead (55').

76' – Camara solo delights fans

In the closing stages, our Red Bulls controlled the game with composure and cruised to a comfortable home victory. The impressive Camara provided another late highlight. The 19-year-old embarked on a spectacular solo run across half the pitch, leaving the Austrian defenders in his wake, and surged into the penalty area at breakneck speed. Only his final cross was slightly inaccurate, preventing him from capping off this impressive individual effort with a goal. In the 90th minute, the youngster from Burkina Faso was just an inch away from scoring his first Bundesliga goal.

90' – Confident going into Wednesday's top-of-the-table clash

In the end, our lads left nothing to chance and comfortably saw out the well-deserved 4-1 victory. With their third win in four league matches, our Red Bulls remain in close pursuit of the top of the table - just two points behind the leading duo.

Views

We played a very good game in the first half, apart from the first five minutes – after that, we were right on it. After Thursday's match, to make the opponents chase the game and dictating the play ourselves – we did an excellent job of that. We then scored some very nice goals. You could really see the confidence and composure. I still have some critical points though. In our off-the-ball play, we were a bit careless at times, not consistent enough in our pressing, and we conceded one or two too many counter-attacks. We're on the right track though as that's normal.

You can see our progress. The first half was very composed. We were dominant, created lots of scoring opportunities, and remained composed on the ball – we did that really well. In the second half, we saw it out cleanly, and after making it 4-1, we extinguished any remaining hope they might have. Now we need to stay true to our principles and improve - as we have a big game ahead on Wednesday!
