Morocco have announced their squad for the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with Genk’s emerging young talent Bilal El Khannous getting called up to the 26 man squad. El Khannous has yet to make a senior appearance for the Atlas Lions, which could come at the World Cup. Morocco are in the same group as Belgium, Canada and Croatia.
18 year-old El Khannous has played 15 matches for Genk this season, providing one assist. The teenager has been part of the best attack in the Pro League, and Genk are currently top of the league having only lost one game.
Alongside El Khannous, Standard Liege’s Selim Amallah was also called up to the team. Amallah’s contract situation at Standard has seen him left out of recent matchday squads, meaning he will be going into the World Cup with very little match practice. The attacking midfielder has 23 caps for the Moroccan national team, scoring four goals.
Morocco open their tournament against Croatia on the 23rd of November.
