La Liga giants Real Madrid had an emerging hero to thank for avoiding what would have been costly dropped points in the race for the title on Tuesday.

The player in question? Carlos Espí.

José Mourinho’s troops were of course back in action a short time ago, making the trip to Alicante to lock horns with Elche in a league clash.

With 45 minutes on the clock, the visitors appeared to be in cruise control, leading by two goals to nil. A 2nd-half collapse, however, allowed Elche back into the game, ultimately culminating in the hosts drawing level late on.

And as alluded to above, this set the stage for a budding star to save the blushes of his big-name teammates…

Introduced off the bench inside the closing five minutes, Blancos summer signing Carlos Espí got on the end of a perfect Kylian Mbappé layoff, to ensure that all three points headed back to Spain’s capital.

After also notching a late winner against Espanyol on opening day, this means that young frontman Espí has now been directly responsible for four of Real Madrid’s 15 points this term.
